>Faith and what it means to ME

>According to Wikipedia,

Faith is a belief in the trustworthiness of an idea. Formal usage of the word “faith” is usually reserved for concepts of religion, as in theology, where it almost universally refers to a trusting belief in a transcendent reality, or else in a Supreme Being and said being’s role in the order of transcendent, spiritual things.

Informal usage of the word “faith” can be quite broad, and may be used standardly in place of either as “trust,” “belief,” or “hope“. For example, the word “faith” can refer to a religion itself or to religion in general. (For informal uses of the word “faith”, see Faith (word)). As with “trust,” faith involves a concept of future events or outcomes.

As individuals, we have our own and unique faith. I believe that as we mature in life we create our own faith. We build our own faith. We nurture our own faith. And finally, try to live by our own faith.

When I was about to leave my hometown for college (in Manila), there’s only one strict rule my parents enforced. It was that I was born a Catholic and I should die one. Don’t take this wrong, we respect other religions as we expect them to respect ours.

I am a product of a Catholic school for 11 years. From them I learned how to recite prayers but it was because of my family I learned to say it. I have deep roots on Catholicism. My grandfather was a man of our local church (the late Nonong De Jesus). He made sure his grandchildren were also children of the church. I actively participate on Sunday masses being one of the readers and my parents would always hear mass with me. I remember we used to gather every night at our ancestral house for a family prayer and a dinner follows.

Later I was exposed to other religions because of my friends. And because my best friend was eccentric enough to study Koran to despise his mother. Thus, I’ve come to realize that we may call HIM different names but we refer to only one GOD.

What makes me respects a person is his faith and his willingness to stand with it. No matter what it is. The important thing is, you have something to hold on to as your faith and you try to act according to it.

I am still on a journey on strengthening my faith. As I am also too human to be perfect. I commit mistakes, ask forgiveness and still do it a day after.
Maybe this is what one calls LIVING. We live in order to find our purpose and live it. We live to fail but we live another day to overcome it.
