>Tips on Visita Iglesia

>We’ve visited 7 churches last night and we were with the in laws. At the end I realize it’s never a good idea to bring along a toddler on your Visita Iglesia. It was hot and too crowded for them. We didn’t have a nanny with us and so I didn’t get to pray and reflect much because I was taking care of a bored toddler.

Tip 1: Bring your own water. And snacks if you have kids with you

Tip 2: Practice buddy system so it’s easy to monitor everyone. For sure, you’ll be walking and crossing the street from the parking lot to the church and vice versa. Safety of course, is our primary concern here.

Tip 3: Bring your own Station of the Cross copy and provide extra copies in case someone left theirs on the previous church.

Tip 4: Plan your church hop early on.

Tip 5: Wear comfortable dress and shoes.

Tip 6: Make the trip fun by sharing stories and experiences along the way. Make it less a burden for everyone so it’ll be a pleasant experience that the younger ones would always want to do it each year.

Tip 7: Don’t forget the kids’ dinner. If you’re on fasting, don’t make the younger ones fast too. They burn as much calories as we do but they have little tolerance on hunger and hunger pains.

Tip 8: Prepare the things that you need even  before the trip like candles, rosaries, match, etc.

Tip 9: Don’t be a back seat driver. Uhhm, okay this is from a personal stand point.

Tip 10: Even though it’s commemorating the things that Jesus went through to save us, let’s not make Visita Iglesia a burden to everyone else. We all have different ways of making our sacrifice for the Holy Week. Let the kids enjoy it.
