>October 4, 2010 is World Habitat Day

>

Every child, every family deserves a decent home. A non-profit and Christian ministry, Habitat for Humanity Philippines, strives to eliminate housing poverty and makes adequate, decent housing.

On Monday, October 4 is World Habitat Day and a chance for everyone to raise awareness about the lack of decent shelter. To quote Habitat for Humanity,Every week, more than a million people are born in, or move to, cities in the developing world. As a result, the urban population of developing countries will double from 2 billion to 4 billion in the next 30 years. (Kissick, et al: 2006)

By the year 2030, an additional 3 billion people, about 40 percent of the world’s population, will need access to housing. This translates into a demand for 96,150 new affordable units every day and 4,000 every hour. (UN-HABITAT: 2005)”

So what can you do to help Habitat for Humanity?

Be an advocate. Help spread the word through your blogs and other social media. Visit Habitat for Humanity for ways to help.

In recognition of World Habitat Day,Habitat for Humanity is collecting photos to display in a Photo Wall. Submit your photo to remind decision makers in Washington, D.C., to make housing a priority.

Getting involved is easy. All supporters need to do is:

1. Write “What will you build?” on a piece of paper.
2. Take a photo holding the message.
3. Upload the picture to Habitat’s Photo Wall.
