If I were not a WAHM, I would not have  spur of the moment bonding moment with my daughter. Yesterday, I taught Peaches about loving trees and plants around us.  We were watching Dad’s plants and talking about how plants grow and how trees are important and should be given respect because they’ve been here longer than us. To her curiosity and questions I was led to the story of creation to the first man and woman on Earth then to people getting old and what we do when we’re old.

She was quiet for a time and then happily quipped, “Mom, when I’m finish studying, I’ll get work and I’ll buy my own house but it should be near you and Dad so we are still together. I’ll go to your house to cook for you and clean your house.”

Didn’t I tell you she’s the sweetest little girl?

I then told her, “You don’t need to do that, Mom can still cook and clean the house even if I’m older”.

Peaches: “No, but you’re working all the time. It’s my turn.”

Aww.. If that didn’t melt your heart, I don’t know what! She’s very precious and adorable!

But wait, there’s more…

Peaches: “Mom, are you going to be old like Nannie and Lola and Pappie and Tatay?”

Me: “Yes, just like you getting taller…taller than Mom”.

She hugged me and said, “Mom, I just want to be small like this and not grow forever.”

Me: “Why?”

Peaches: “Because I don’t want you to grow old”.

Silence. Hugs & Kisses.

I knew what her fears were and it’s normal. I wasn’t prepared though that it will come to her at this age.

Me: “Anak, people grow old. It’s normal and whether we like it or not we’re going to be old. It’s where life should go. That’s why we enjoy each day and do better each day.”

Peaches: “Okay.”

Well, I hope it’s as easy as Okay. 🙂
