Polycom Executives were in the Philippines to educate the media about what Polycom has been doing to improve the communication experiences of the telecom companies and other enterprises that use video collaborative solutions.

Polycom is a global leader in delivering and committing Unified Communications Solutions. It’s a communication innovation that empowers and encourages people to have a connection and collaboration everywhere.

Mr. Rene Valladolid, Channel Sales Director of Polycom in the Philippines, HK and Taiwan talked about Polycom in general. Polycom has been founded since 1990 and is in partnership with American Technologies, Inc (ATI) in distributing Polycom devices and software in the Philippines.

Polycom is based in Singapore and has offices to 53 countries. In 2011, Polycom will establish their Philippine office (yes, to more jobs for the Filipinos!).  Polycom has been a trusted partner of several companies all over the world.

Mr. Randel Maestre, Polycom’s Global Head and Senior Director for Industry Solutions, announced the exciting steps that Polycom has been doing to advance their commitment to an open and standard-based unified communication:

1. Scalable Video Coding Technology (SVC) which will provide a no-cost video advancement to Polycom’s partners. In fact, Polycom and Microsoft announced their partnership in yet to be another breakthrough in video collaboration which Microsoft will soon launch, and the product is named Microsoft Lync

2. Mobile Solutions – Polycom and Samsung has partnered to release a video application for Samsung Galaxy Android Tablet. To quote Dr. Hosoo Lee, executive Vice President and head of the Samsung Media Solution Center, “We are partnering with Polycom due to its unparalleled HD video and voice quality, to bring a best-in-class, standards-based video communications experience to a wide range of UC applications and devices, including the new Samsung Galaxy tablets and Samsung smartphones.”

3. Cloud Solutions – Polycom announced its partnership with Broadsoft to give customers comprehensive solutions on end to end High Definition voice and video collaboration. This will provide customers a low- up front cost and predictable monthly costs which rapidly increases the return on investment and of course reduces their travel expenses.

These are the top 3 announcements made by Polycom executives. Rest assured that the Philippine industry and the rest of the world will be watching and waiting for its implementation and as well as the shaping of Polycom’s promises.

There were great questions raised after the presentations and one of which was, “Will Polycom provide HD-video and voice collaboration to small businesses and household consumers?”  And the answer is YES.

I can’t wait to get my hands on their products since recently I am experiencing trouble with my Skype or Yahoo teleconference. Polycom by the way, gives you HD video and voice teleconference at half of the bandwidth! I am truly impressed.
But at this rate, my US-based boss will not be able to afford such set-up and we still need to wait for Polycom’s answer to small time businesses and home based consumers.

Well, until them Polycom!
