Caesarean or also known as C-section is a surgical procedure in which one or more incisions are made through a mother’s abdomen (laparotomy) and uterus (hysterotomy) to deliver one or more babies, or, rarely, to remove a dead fetus. This is performed mostly when Vaginal birth will pose a risk on the mother or child but recently it can also be done upon request of the pregnant mother.

In my case I had an emergency C-section because of arrest cervical dilatation. I never got pass the 4″ mark, it should be at least 8″ to be considered good for delivery.  Unlike others who had C-section because the fetus was in a wrong position or because of cord coiling, I will forever be giving birth via C-section because my vaginal canal is small (quite hard to believe when you see how HUGE I am.)

So the question is, How long should you wait before conceiving after a C-section?

The most advisable interval is 18-24 months before trying for another baby.

Though some are known to have given birth to their second baby less than 18 months after their first Ceasarean section and did pretty well. Ultimately it’s up to you and your body coping up and healing. I would suggest that you ask your OB GYNE on what’s best for you and your soon-to-be baby.

As for me, it’s almost 4 years now since I gave birth to Peaches but I still can’t get over the self-body image disturbance that I get when looking at my scar and this I think has been the greatest hindrance on my “readiness” to be pregnant again. And of course there’s that disturbing image of my big belly exploding because the previous scar opened! GAH!

Remember that the longer you wait to conceive after your last pregnancy lessens your  risk of complications so think about it and plan ahead! 😀

My next post would be about referring to Chinese calendar for your future baby’s gender. Do you believe on such? Come back to know more!
